In my capacity fulfilling the Tri Dharma of higher education at the University of Jember, I also serve as the Head of the Applied Biological Control (ABC) Research Group. The ABC Research Group was established as an academic response to the degradation of modern agroecosystem resilience caused by monoculture systems and the intensive use of synthetic chemical inputs. Our group is driven by a fundamental vision to become a leading research group in establishing sustainable industrial agriculture.
As the head of this group, I direct our focus toward the integration of basic research, applied research, and technological innovation in the fields of biological and botanical control. This aligns synergistically with my research expertise in the utilization of entomopathogens and endophytic fungi. Our scope of investigation is comprehensive, encompassing the exploration of local microbial and floral biodiversity as sources of biocontrol agents, the formulation of bioinsecticides and biofungicides, and the in-depth study of ecological interactions within the agroecosystem.
Within the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) framework, the ABC Research Group implements three primary pillars of biological control scientifically: the conservation of biocontrol agents through habitat management, augmentation (population enhancement via laboratory mass rearing, both in vivo and in vitro), and the introduction of natural enemies.
The strategic objective of our scientific endeavor is to realize the concept and prototype of a sustainable industrial agricultural system grounded in the strengthening of agroecosystem health. Our targeted outputs consistently include the development of applicable biological control models, the formulation of superior biopesticides, national and international scientific publications, as well as the downstreaming of technology to farmers and stakeholders to support national food security.
